TDC News & Speeches Made "Simple"

The Trade Development Council has made life easier for users in the Chinese mainland to use the information and services on its Internet trade portal.

Simply with one click, all information on in traditional Chinese can be transformed into simplified Chinese.

The trade portal has been providing information for local and mainland users in traditional Chinese. However, for those who prefer to browse in simplified Chinese, they have to install decoding plug-ins in their own computers.

TDC's Deputy Executive Director Anna Lai said, "With China's WTO accession , mainland enterprises are more eager than ever to search for products, services and business partners in Hong Kong, and to keep abreast of latest global market developments, " added Mrs. Lai.

"With a simplified Chinese version, will not only become more user-friendly for mainland users, it will also increase local company's penetration into the mainland market," added Mrs. Lai

Conversion between traditional and simplified Chinese is made possible through a software developed by, which worked jointly with Eureka Digital. Both are local Internet solution providers.

Kanhan's Director Frank Lee said, "With our plug and play online translation and publishing solution, content of, together with data provided by its strategic partners, can be converted from traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese by a real-time translation engine."

"TDC can focus on maintaining and updating only one set of Chinese data, as the simplified version is built automatically."

Since its launching in February, has become a natural showcase of Hong Kong companies' edges and capabilities in software development.
