HanVOICE is a voice enabling system for websites. It integrates human sounding text-to-speech technology (TTS) to convert text into voice in real time, supporting Chinese in Cantonese and Putonghua, English, Japanese and Korean and possibly all other international languages when TTS for the corresponding language is available. Visitor of a HanVOICE enabled website uses only the numeric keys on a PC to navigate the website with standard browser software by following vocal instructions. Contrast to reading from the screen and click on the links using a mouse, pressing a numeric key will invoke a linked page with its text converted into voice in real-time and streamed down to the browser as if the website recites its content to the visitor. HanVOICE opens up an alternative way for visually impaired persons (VIP) including the blinds, elderly, people with reading difficulties and even those computer illiterates in rural areas in surfing the internet by listening.

HanVOICE embeds an intelligent website analysis program that can extract only those desired content from different websites in real time, thus opening up a voice portal concept that allows government agencies and NGOs to create websites with only the appropriate information for the targeted group of audience.

Most of the VIP and elderly cannot afford special computer system catered for their need in using computer, therefore cutting them out from Internet world. HanVOICE is the world’s first breakthrough server technology for VIP accessing Internet in the most economical way. It conforms to World Wide Web Consortium (WC3)’s Web Content Accessibilities Guidelines (http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/#toc) in making web content accessible to people with disabilities in addressing the auditory need.

Even if computer and Internet connection are not accessible, HanVOICE provides further a telephony interface (HanPHONE IVR extension) for users to call and listen to websites. Anyone equipped with a mobile phone anywhere or a person using a conventional telephone at home is able to obtain Internet information without even knowing how to use a web browser.
